4 Amazing Products to Fake a Summer Glow

It’s rare that I have a natural tan these days, even in the Summer. Years ago, I would spend hours in the sun to get a tan and now you’ll find me under the umbrella with a hat + plenty of SPF. However, I still LOVE a good bronzey glow. For today’s post, I’ve narrowed down 4 products that I can’t live without (especially in the Summer) and how I apply them for a perfect tan. These are products that always perform well for me, and I continue to buy them over and over again. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?

Bondi Sands Tanning Foam: When I want to tan my entire body, I usually reach for a tanning foam/mousse and you really can’t beat this one by Bondi Sands. It is the perfect tone, not orange, not too olive, and the price point is great! It looks so natural! If I have a photoshoot, wedding, heading to the beach, etc, I will reach for this because It’s pretty easy to apply + you can see exactly where you have applied it with the guide color. When I use a foam, I like to shower, exfoliate, and shave the night before, and apply the tanner first thing in the morning. (I let it develop during the day.) I always exfoliate with this scrub. Make sure to focus on your elbows, knees, and ankles. I moisturize my entire body with this lotion before bed. The next morning, I will apply this cream to any areas that I exfoliated to make sure those areas don’t develop into a darker tan than the rest of my body. Next, I use this mitt (the best one by far!) for my body and this brush for my face, hands, and feet (any flat-top synthetic brush will work for this.). I work from home most days, so I will do this on a day that I don’t have to leave the house while my tan develops.

Tan Luxe Drops: If you have been following me for a while, you know my love for these tanning drops. They are so easy to use. I’ve used them for years and have been through many bottles. Simply mix a few drops in with your favorite moisturizer, apply to your body, and you’re done! If you want a deeper tan, simply use more drops. This is a product that you can use gradually to build a tan over several days also if you wish to go that route. You don’t have to shower this tanner off, however, make sure to wash your palms after applying! I have no issues using this on my face!

Bronzing Lotion: I love to layer this product on top of an existing tan, or just on my natural skin for a gorgeous glow. It gives you an immediate bronze effect and it also has a gradual tanner built in it, which will deepen your tan. You can dilute this with regular lotion if you want it to be more subtle. It is absolutely stunning on legs! Make sure to let this product dry down before getting dressed or it will transfer!

My All-Time FAVORITE Bronzer: I discovered this bronzer last year and it is such a staple in my makeup routine year round–It made it onto my best products of 2020 post. I wear it with or without foundation. The formula is so stunning and you can wear it super sheer or build it up when you want more color. It never streaks on my skin and it always looks so natural. I use the shade Nude Bronze Light. It comes in a few other shades for different skin tones as well. The price point is a little more than I like to spend on a makeup product, but it lasts SO long.

Let me know if I missed your favorite tanning product below or if you plan to try any of these out! I can’t believe we have almost made it to Summer!

Cheers,

Olivia

5 Mineral-Based Facial Sunscreens You Should Try

Hellllo there! Today’s blog topic falls into one of my favorite categories–skin care! I am one of those people who will sit and read product reviews and watch YouTube videos for hours. (I know, I know.) So, I have rounded up today for you 5 of my most trusted mineral-based facial sunscreens! They are all different, but I love each of them for their own reasons. Sunscreen is arguably the most important step in your skincare routine each day, so why not have options? Side note: All of these sunscreens are mineral-based meaning they have no chemical filters in them. This is the type of SPF that I prefer for my skin after my research over the years. I hope you enjoy! To shop any of the items, simply click on each one in the photo or scroll through at the end of this post.

  1. Elta MD UV Replenish(SPF 44) – Best for wearing under makeup every day. I use BareMinerals original loose foundation on the daily (which has additional spf), and it buffs over this sunscreen beautifully! I love all of the skin benefits that comes along with this sunscreen as well. It is very moisturizing and needs to be blended in well. This is the only one on the list that can leave a very slight white cast, but it does not bother me at all.
  2. Paula’s Choice Essential Glow Moisturizer(SPF 30): Best for very dry skin in need of some glow. Like the name suggests, this leaves you with glowing, dewy skin. I love to put this on my chest as well to keep my skin looking healthy. Blends in the easiest of the group. No white cast.
  3. Elta MD UV Physical Tinted(SPF 41) – Best for skipping foundation all together. This is a thicker, tinted consistency, but it does not feel heavy. I love to layer liquid blush and concealer over this one for no makeup makeup days. No white cast.
  4. Paula’s Choice Super-Light Wrinkle Defense(SPF 30): Best for those who don’t like the feeling of anything on their face. This is the lightest-weight formula that I have tried. Since I have dry skin, this one is best for me in the dead of Summer when I’m planning on being by the pool/beach or breaking a sweat. Even my husband approves of this one, and he hates putting lotion on his face! No white cast.
  5. Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue(SPF30): Best for getting the most custom shade in a sunscreen. Complexion Rescue is technically a makeup product, but it offers so many skin benefits that it deserves to be on this list! This is such a unique product, and I’ve used it for years. The texture is light (it’s a gel-cream) and it comes in multiple shades. Their claim is that this will increase your skin’s hydration by 200% after one week. It definitely leaves your skin looking radiant. Of course, no white cast with this one.

Well y’all, this is my army of facial SPF’s. I hope that my brief write-up of each one was helpful! Let me know if you decide to try one this season!

Cheers,

Olivia

Favorite Products Discovered in 2020

Hey guys! Welcome back. 🙂 I know many of you are happy to kiss 2020 goodbye at this point, however, I wanted to highlight some really great finds from 2020 that I will for sure take into 2021 with me! I love reading “round up” blog posts like this that tie together stand out products. I always end up finding one or two items that I want to try myself from other people’s posts, so I hope you find something from my list that you want to try! Let’s get started:

*Click on any item to shop!

Abercrombie Curve Love Jeans: Y’all probably knew this would be top of the list. Jeans are SO hard to find the perfect fit, and Abercrombie really nailed it with this cut. The curve love jeans have an extra 2 inches around the hip and thigh area, and then they taper more in the waist which means your booty and thighs are more comfortable AND you have no waist gap. I have these in 3 pairs! They come in petite, regular, and tall!

Aerie Offline Goals Leggings: Big surprise, I also own three pairs of these. When I love something, I love it lol. These are a true athletic looking legging that you can totally wear casual as well. They have a good amount of hold without being uncomfortable (wearing them now as I type this) and they are great to work out in and feel secure. If you are into barre workouts, I think you would love these!

Aerie Real Free Padded Bralette: My most worn bra of 2020. It is so so comfortable, y’all. I could sleep in it. I have this one in two colors and it is my go to bra for anything. Running errands, chilling around the house, traveling. It is a great one. It is almost a hybrid between a regular bra and sports bra, however, I wouldn’t wear this one for an intense work out.

Chain Belt: This is such a fun find of 2020! It can be worn in so many different ways and just adds a little something unique to your outfit. I love how adjustable it is to get the exact fit that you want depending on what you’re layering it over. Very affordable piece too!

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Serum: 2020 was a year that I experimented with skincare, and I really love this serum! I put it on before my moisturizer or mix it in depending on what I’m feeling. It is super light weight and I love adding in hydration to my skin care.

Paula’s Choice Super Antioxidant Serum: I don’t think I’ve talked about this one with y’all yet! I usually like to use products for a long time before sharing about them, so that I know how they perform. This has been constant for me for the past 7 months or so– love this serum! It is packed with amazing ingredients. I apply this at night before my moisturizer and eye cream, and I have actually noticed a significant difference. My skin texture is so much better and it brought an overall evenness to my complexion. It also has a brightening effect. I will definitely repurchase!

Paula’s Choice Light Weight Sunscreen: I talked about this product over the Summer with y’all, but I wear it everyday. It is super light weight so anyone can wear this and not be bothered by it. I actually layer moisturizer underneath since I have dry skin. It acts as a primer for makeup for me and it even blurs my complexion a bit, so it’s also really great on its own. It has a slight tint so that it will not leave a white cast.

Hourglass Bronzer: Oh my goodness y’all. Why was this new to me in 2020?? It is the most gorgeous bronzer. I wear this even if I only put on the tinted sunscreen above and mascara. It is just so youthful and glowy without making you look glittery. I have it in two different shades: Luminous Bronze Light for Summer and Nude Bronze Light for Winter. I also sweep this in the crease before eyeshadow or by itself. It’s a pricey but very versatile product, so it is worth it in my opinion.

Briogeo Hair Mask: I go through a lot of hair masks, and this one is definitely worth mentioning for this year. I am almost done with my current one, and I will be purchasing another. It is super moisturizing without being super heavy, which is odd to me because I actually love the feeling of a really heavy hair mask. This one gives me the results that I want without being so thick. I do like to add it drops of pure argan oil to any hair mask that I use. This is the one that I use.

Ouai Hair Oil: Another stand out hair product that re-discovered this year. This is a super light weight oil that I put on my ends after blow drying. It smells amazing and adds shine without adding grease. I even reapply this in between washes when my hair gets dry.

Thanks y’all for reading! I hope that you have a happy New Year!

Cheers,

Olivia

Highly Rated Tula Products — Are They Worth Trying?

Highly Rated Tula Products — Are They Worth Trying?

Chances are, if you are on instagram and follow any influencers, you have heard of Tula. Tula is a skincare brand that offers cleaner ingredients, and raved about by hundreds and hundreds of influencers it seems. So, naturally, I was curious enough to pick up some Tula products myself to test out! A couple months ago, with my 20% off coupon at Ulta, I decided to try out 3 of the most talked about products.  I of course wanted to share with you all what I thought of the products I picked up, so let’s go ahead and chat about them! (This post is not sponsored in any way, Tula has no clue who I am lol.)

I’ll start with the So Polished Face Scrub. I immediately loved this product. I use it about twice a week.  It is a gentle scrub that slowly dissolves as you rub it in. It is abrasive enough to remove dead skin, but not too harsh that it feels like it’s scratching your face. It contains sugar, papaya, and pineapple, so it smells AMAZING. My skin feels incredibly soft afterwards, and not dried out.  I would definitely repurchase this product! It has taken the place of my old face scrub already.

Facescrub

The next product is an interesting one: The Face Filter Primer. This primer is packed with really great ingredients like turmeric and probiotics, and releases warm-toned glow particles as you blend it in to your skin.  I really loved the idea of this product, because I personally love a more radiant blurred finish.  However, these glow particles in this product really are pretty pigmented, and I find that wearing this under my foundation makes my makeup look a bit uneven.  Perhaps this is because I’m more fair-skinned that this product appears blotchy under makeup.  I did also try this face filter out without wearing foundation on top for a “no makeup” look, and I do think it looked better that way.  I just don’t think it looked good enough to replace other bb creams that I use for that kind of look. I hope Tula comes out with a more translucent version of this primer, because I love the blurring and radiance, just not so much the color. Unfortunately, I’ll be taking this one back!

Okay, now onto possibly Tula’s most famous product right now: The Rose Glow Eye Balm.  They talk about this product selling out all the time.  It’s another unique product that doesn’t really compare to any other products out there right now. It is a rose-tinted hydrating and cooling eye balm packed with wonderful ingredients just like the rest of their products. You are supposed to be able to apply this under or over makeup for a pick me up.  My initial thoughts about this product was it is pretty radiant and it does have a cooling sensation right away! I’ve worn this with and without makeup, and here are my thoughts:  I have really dry skin, and usually apply eye cream day and night (prior to going to bed, and prior to putting on makeup.).  So, I thought that this might replace eye cream during the day with all of it’s wonderful claims. However, it simply does not moisturize enough on its own for my skin needs.  I also find that the cooling sensation and the radiance does wear off throughout the day. Probably not a product I would repurchase for the price. Instead, if you are looking for some extra radiance and some added brightening under the eyes, try Tarte’s Maracuja C-Brighter Eye Treatment. I love to put this on before makeup!

I hope that this helped those of you who are curious about Tula! I searched high and low for non-sponsored reviews before trying all of these products myself, and I realized that I needed to write my own! If this review was helpful to you, I would so appreciate you subscribing to my blog. I love to review beauty products and share about fashion and lifestyle items as well! As always, thanks so much for reading.

Until next time,

Olivia 💋💋

Clean Beauty Products I’ve Added to My Everyday Routine 2020

Clean Beauty Products I’ve Added to My Everyday Routine 2020

Hi everyone, and thank you for tuning into my blog post today–My first post of 2020! That is so crazy to think about.  Something I really focused on last year was paying more attention to the ingredients of all of my beauty products. There are so many clean beauty brands coming out, and I believe it has made all of us more conscious of our choices when we shop! These are some that I have added to my routine in the past few months and love them enough to share with all of you. As always, I’ll link all the products I talk about within the post. If you click on the BOLD names of the products, it will take you straight to the exact product. You can also shop by clicking the photos at the bottom of my post.  Alright, let’s talk clean beauty.

MegaBabe Rosy Pits: I’ll start with this product because honestly, this was initially the inspiration for this entire post. (not sponsored) It’s amazing.  I have been trying to switch over to a natural deodorant for monthssss. (I originally started off trying the Native Deodorant: Every blogger and their mother was talking about it, so I thought it mustttt be good.  Well, I first tried the coconut vanilla scent for a while. Then, the Jasmine. Both gave me rashes and made my underarms dark!! not cute.)  So, I started to do a little research, and I found out that although Native Deodorant is a “natural” deodorant, it still contains baking soda. Baking soda can be an irritant to skin if you are sensitive, and does not mix well with sweat! Who knew.  Anyway, I decided to try out MegaBabe Rosy Pits after more research.  This stuff is SO good. I don’t even like rosy smells either. To me, this smells like clean sandalwood mixed with a hint of rose.  And it is soothing, which was wonderful after breaking out from the other deodorant.  I highly recommend this scent over their citrus scent.

Burts Bee’s Face Wash:  I was bummed when I couldn’t find my regular every day face wash at target or any grocery stores, and I decided to pick this one up to try. I love Burt’s Bee’s as a brand, and this one of course is much more natural than what I was using before. It also removes all my makeup without drying out my skin, which is super important to me. I have very dry skin in the winter and this gentle foam works great. I will definitely repurchase!

Tula Face Scrub: So, I tried this product along with another Tula product recently, and this one is a winner! I was super skeptical of Tula (everyone on Instagram ravessss about Tula), so I wanted to test out some recommendations myself with my 20% off coupon at Ulta.  This scrub is gentle, but not too gentle to the point that it doesn’t remove dead skin and build up. It smells wonderful like pineapples, and my skin actually feels hydrated after. I only use this about twice a week because I don’t love to over exfoliate my face.

Baebody Eye Gel: This was a random Amazon find that has over 15,000 reviews! It is an eye gel that has peptides and other wonderful ingredients to decrease the look of dark circles, puffiness, etc.  I have actually noticed a difference with this product! I use it at night, and I apply an eye cream on top for extra moisture (again, I have very dry skin).  You get a ton of product in this container for the price too!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery:  This brand is not actually considered to be a “clean beauty” brand. However, this overnight treatment is made of wonderful clean ingredients for your skin. (It has a great rating on the Think Dirty App. More info on this at the bottom of my post.). It is a face oil with a dropper applicator. I drop about three drops directly onto my face after cleansing and pat it in with my fingers.  I apply my moisturizer after to seal it all in.

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Treatment: I purchased this product during the last Sephora sale because I was trying to get my total purchase price higher in order to receive free shipping! I’m so glad I did. This stuff is amazing! I haven’t dealt with chapped lips at all this winter, and I really think it’s because of this product! It is superrr thick lip balm and a little goes a long way. I apply it at night, and it has completely replaced my Vaseline lip treatment that I used to use.

Baobab Oil: This is a pure oil in a pump bottle that I add into my hair mask! I add about 4-5 drops in with it and work it into the bottom half of my hair. It has really helped with the damage from highlighting my hair and dryness from the winter air! The only downside to this oil is that it comes in a glass bottle, so be careful if keeping it in your shower!  This brand also has other pure oils in this line. I also love the Argan oil! I even put the Argan oil on Joise’s coat for moisture and shine. 🙂

SHOP THE POST:

***Honorable mention: Trader Joes Miceller Face Wipes!! ***Next time you are in TJ’s, be sure to pick up these face wipes and try them yourself!  I am super picky about face wipes, and I have tried a ton of different brands. These are great! I find a lot of times with face wipes that they are dry and don’t do anything other than tug at my skin. These are perfectly wet, and remove all of my makeup before I go in with my cleanser. LOVE!

IMG_2809

I also want to talk about the app I have been using for the past couple years to see how “clean” my beauty products are. It’s called the Think Dirty app, and you can look up all kinds of beauty products or even scan their bar codes while out shopping to see how “clean” the products truly are.  They go into detail about all of the ingredients in the products and explain to you why certain items may be harmful. It has definitely taught me a lot about what to look for + what not to look for in my skincare and hair care products.

I hope y’all found something from this list that you want to try out! Let me know some of your fave beauty brands or products below! I would love to try them out and continue to add to this list throughout the year! Thanks for reading. 🙂

Cheers,

Olivia

Photo-Shoot Tanning Routine

Hey y’all!  I’m excited to be writing this post in collaboration with Pink Magnolia!  You can find my post on their website along with other guest bloggers in the future. As many of you know, I have been the model for their website for the past year participating in weekly photoshoots.  We have had so much fun since the beginning, and we continue to learn more and more after each shoot.

Shop Spring skirts and bottoms!

One thing that has been constantly part of my routine the past year is self tanning (I’ve tried several different types of products!).  After trial and error, I have found a couple of products that I really love and are pretty easy to use too.  I thought that some of you would appreciate me sharing my tips and tricks as the weather heats up, and we are ready to bust out our Spring wardrobes!  I always feel more confident with a little extra color before diving into Spring styles.

Tan Luxe Body Drops

Clarins Face Drops

I’ll start by talking about the type of tanner I use, which is tanning drops!  As opposed to tanning mousse, gradual lotions, sprays, etc, tanning drops allow for a more custom color that lasts over a week and fades nicely!  These drops also last me a lot longer than purchasing other kinds of self tanners, and no need to purchase a mitt along with it.

IMG_6435

How to use:

I use the Tan Luxe tanning drops and Clarins face drops with my favorite everyday lotion.  I simply mix a few drops in with my moisturizer for each section of my body.  The more drops you use, obviously the deeper your tan will be.  You can also build color over several days if you aren’t comfortable going in with so many drops the first time. That’s why I really love this style of tanning.  You can make it work for you whether you want to be bronzed or just slightly sun-kissed.  The best part of this product is that it does not smell.  I put it on right after I shower, and I’m good to go. There’s no need to rinse it off.  (If applying directly with your hands, be sure to wash your palms thoroughly–This is how I apply it).  You can apply it before bed or the beginning of your day and go about your business.  It slowly develops after several hours just like a spray tan would.

My Tips:

  •  Exfoliate and shave just like you would before any other type of tanner.  Add and emollient lotion to areas like knees, elbows, ankles to prevent dark patches before going in with the moisturizer/drop mixture.
  • Start with less the first time you use it to figure out your perfect amount, and to allow some error your first time applying!  (It’s always worse when you miss a spot and your tan is super dark).
  • Go with the dark drops and not the light-medium.  My skin is pretty fair, and I use the dark version.  I simply use less drops, and my bottle lasts longer!
  • Apply a generous amount of lotion on the back of your hands and less drops than you’d apply anywhere else.  Sometimes I even use the drops I use on my face for my hands.  Simply because the face drops are much more subtle.
  • Keep your skin moisturized each day after applying the tanner, and your color will last longer and fade nicely.

I hope this post helps y’all get ready for Spring and all the fun Spring styles coming out as well! I know I’m ready!  If you enjoyed this post, please consider subscribing to my blog as well as following me on Instagram! Beauty Counter–My Honest Opinion

IMG_6080.JPG

Hello there! My first beauty product review coming rightttt up. Many of you have heard of Beauty Counter, and some of you haven’t! Basically, it is a nontoxic skincare/makeup brand that holds themselves to the highest standard with their ingredients.  They even use nontoxic packaging to prevent harmful leaching into their products, pretty awesome! I love brands that truly care about the health of our skin, and don’t just market terms like “glowy” and “healthy-looking,” without having the ingredients to back that up.

I learned about Beauty Counter through a good friend of mine who recently became a consultant.   She educated me a little bit about the lack of regulation in the cosmetic industry when it comes to what goes into our products (pretty scary).  Beauty Counter is working towards changing that, which is a wonderful thing for us all! They have a list of ingredients that they call the “Never” list.  This is a list of ingredients you should stay away from, and they are in many products on shelves everywhere.  I’ll put a picture of the list below, and you can see if your products pass the test!

IMG_6089.JPG

I’ll link their website here in case you’d like to read a little bit more about the company.

Now, I’ll tell you what I thought about the products so far! Are they worth the hype??

I used nothing but Beauty Counter creams, cleansers, and rosewater facial spray for a solid week.  Here’s a picture of the lineup: (Essential Nourishing Collection)

IMG_6081.JPG

What I noticed:

  •  My skin was so much more hydrated, and stayed that way throughout the day.  (I have VERY dry skin in the winter.)
  • The texture of my skin was smoother, and fine lines around my eyes were much less noticeable. My makeup applied better, and also looked smoother–no need for primer!
  • My skin had less redness, and looked brighter.  I got away with wearing less makeup for sure.

Since these products are definitely on the pricier side, I’ll let you know what I decided to purchase so far:

img_6088

  •  Sleep Cream – A step above the night cream that I tested originally (I felt like my skin could use the extra moisture this provides.)  I LOVE this product. I didn’t know how much my skin needed this–I wake up with my skin feeling much softer. Worth the money for sure.
  • Eye rescue cream –  Also a step above in hydration from the eye cream I originally tested from the nourishing line.  I’ve tried a lot of eye creams out there, and I honestly have to say this is my favorite so far.
  • Nourishing cream exfoliator – This stuff does a great job at getting rid of dead skin while still being emollient and not harsh.  I have been looking for a really good exfoliator safe to use multiple times a week, so this is perfect for that.

Overall, I am excited to add these products to my routine mainly because I am confident that every ingredient is healthy for my skin (no nonsense toxic chemicals).  At the end of the day, I believe that what we use to nourish our skin should be a priority over many other beauty products we get caught up in (makeup, tanners, lashes, etc.) Great skin = Wearing less of everything else. 🙂

I hope this helps those of you who are interested in trying Beauty Counter or any other nontoxic skincare!   As always, thanks for reading and talk to you soon.

Cheers,

Olivia

5 Nourishing Products for Winter Skin

I have been working mostly from home the past two days due to snow here in Apex (if you’re local, you know that everything here is shut down when it snows lol), and I thought I would write a quick post on winter skin care items that I have loved and used for years now!  I really enjoy posts about beauty products, and I hope y’all do too!

These products will all be great for winter time, or if you’re like me, you can use them year-round (I have very dry skin).  Also–I wanted to note that none of these products have ever broken me out!

  1.  CeraVe Lotion:  I have been using this for years now. It is what my dermatologist suggested when I told her I wanted something rich and nourishing without being heavy and greasy. I put this on my face and body every day.

IMG_5715CeraVe Lotion

2.  Mario Badescu Facial Spray:  This product is so cooling and hydrating.  I spray this product after washing my face in the morning (before moisturizer), and throughout the day if I feel like I need it.  The aloe in it is very soothing as well. IMG_5716MB Facial Spray

3.  Smashbox Primer Oil:  Y’all, this stuff is so amazing.  It is so much more than a primer.  I mix a few drops of this with my cerave moisturizer morning and night.  I also pat extra product around my eyes to act as a serum/eye cream.  This stuff sinks in really well. I tested a different face oil in place of this when I ran out of it last month, and I noticed my skin was getting so dull and dry.  I repurchased this, and I will continue to do so!                                                                           IMG_5717   SB Primer Oil

4.  Bareminerals Complexion Rescue: This is not a tinted moisturizer or bb cream.  This is a hydrating tinted gel cream, and it is so good for your skin! It really does improve your skin’s hydration level, and makes your skin look so radiant!  I love to wear this on “no makeup” makeup days or underneath my powders as a hydrating base when I need it. It does give you a bit of coverage, and it also has spf 30! IMG_5714BM Complexion Rescue

5.  Vaseline Lip Therapy:  The most old school product on this list, and it works so well. I put this on my lips before bed because it is thicker than normal chapstick, and most lip oils I have tried are too sticky. I for sure cannot skip this during the winter, or my lips become so chapped. IMG_5718Vaseline Lip Therapy

Alright, those are my must-have products for the Winter time! I hope this helps y’all out with dry winter skin! Stay warm out there!

Cheers,

Olivia
